The Teaching of Eckhart Tolle
Nationally noted spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle currently lives in Vancouver Canada. In 1968, Tolle was born in Germany, where he resided until age thirteen. At this point he moved with his father to Spain. Then when he was nineteen, he attended Cambridge University and the University of London in the United Kingdom, where he had recently moved. Some of Eckhart’s London activities included counselor and spiritual teacher roles with individuals.
At the age of twenty nine, Eckhart Tolle claims to have had a spiritual awakening after suffering for years with depression and thoughts of suicide. This awakening is what started his journey of discovering himself and spiritual teaching. His teachings are based on living in the present moment and not living in the past or becoming obsessed with the future. He also teaches people how to transform their conscious to a become more enlightened.
He does not focus his spiritual teachings on one specific religion, rather a combination of many different religions. He uses teachings from the Bible, Zen Buddhism, and Hinduism as well as many other sources. He believes that many religions have lost their spiritual substance due to placing too much focus on extraneous matters. He claims that most of our unhappiness is caused by the way we think about situations, not the situations themselves.
Mr. Tolle’s book, The Power of Now, is a very popular bestseller that has been translated in more than 30 different languages. Reguarded as two of the most influential books on spirituality in our time, A New Earth and The Power of Now compliment Stillness Speaks, a book Eckhart wrote soley for the purpose of meditation. In addition to his many books on spiritual learning, Mr. Tolle also has CDs, DVDs, and picture books, all available for adults as well as children.
