500 Million People Worldwide have it, do you?
The shocking fact that one in 12 people have Hepatitis is becoming more and more of an issue as World Hepatitis Day draws closer. The idea of World Hepatitis Day is to increase awareness of the disease and ensure people know the causes and treatments available. This disease kills over 1.5 million people each year and this is mainly down to the fact that most of the 500 million people that have this disease are actually unaware they do. The symptoms are sometimes inexistent and most of the time are similar to colds and flu and because people are unaware of the risks and causes of the disease it goes unnoticed and untreated. This is why the World Hepatitis Alliance has been trying to increase awareness and encourage people to get tested. The fourth World Hepatitis Day will be held on 19th May 2008 and is only the beginning of a huge campaign to increase awareness of this “silent killer”.
